The holiday region Hessisches Bergland offers its visitors many forests, mountains and valleys and was once the place where the Brothers Grimm were inspired for their world-famous fairy tales. The Hessian Highlands is the largest forested low mountain range in Germany. It is located between the Rhenish Slate Mountains and the western edge of the Thuringian Basin. The region is a true natural paradise for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. The mountain massif "Hohe Meißner" with its meadows, pastures and moors offers ideal conditions for hikers. Other popular hiking regions such as the Kellerwald or the Habichtswald, with its uniquely shaped mountains, also attract many hikers. Those who are not so good on foot can also explore the surroundings on horseback. Cyclists will also have great fun in the region. Especially popular is the volcano cycle path with a total length of 93 kilometres. With a length of only 35 kilometres, the Vogelsberg Southern Railway Cycle Path is a popular route for day trips. Both routes take you through the Hessian mountain landscape past flowery meadows, forests and valleys.

In the nearby rivers Eder, Schwalm and Fulda as well as in the crystal clear streams and lakes there are tempting offers for water rats. For example, you can discover the region in a relaxed way by raft. If the wind conditions are good, the surfboard can also be used. The half-timbered town Homberg radiates medieval flair. Stroll through the picturesque alleys or visit the historic town church. Anglers will find many beautiful spots in the Hessian Highlands that are ideal for fishing. A popular fishing spot is the Fuldatal. Here the rivers Eder, Schwalm and Fulda meet, which have large fish stocks. Not only nature lovers will love the Hessian Highlands, but also those interested in culture will find many opportunities here. Old castles, palaces and monasteries let history come alive. In the town Kassel you can visit various museums and exhibitions while strolling through the town.
